Thankzgiving

“There were only a few at first, but their numbers grew quickly. They came from overseas; bringing their disease with them. We were surprised to see them at first. We had never seen anything like them before. Their skin looked so different; their speech patterns didn’t match ours. It wasn’t long before they forced us out of our homes. Some of us stayed behind to fight, others fled. Those that stayed back were slaughtered. Those of us that ran were forced to live in small plots of land where we would be safe. Our once proud way of life was destroyed when they arrived.”

“The zombies?”

Retreat from Yonkers

This is a “comic” I’m putting together about the Retreat from Yonkers. It isn’t done, I haven’t added words and there are duplicates of the same frame as I have yet to choose the right one for each frame, but here is a peak at my progress so far.

The notebook

Date: February 24th-25th 2010
Time:1030
Location:Queens,NY
My name is John Maddock.
I decided to write out my story of the apocalypse. This Notebook is filled with tips and helpful information to survive the outbreak.
My story starts in Queens. I was just landing in JFK international airport when i heard news of a new breed of virus and was informed that everyone was to stay in the airport terminal until further notice.I wondered what the virus did (i found out soon enough)but the pilot wouldn’t tell us.
Time:1530
I saw what the “infected” were like. They appeared to be..dead.The airport security were fighting the infected until they ran out of ammunition. They had no choice but to fight them hand on hand and ended up getting infected as well. The security that remained evacuated us into an airplane until the situation has been dealt with. One lady’s child ran out of the plane and tried to grab a bear that he had dropped. The woman opened the door and jeopardized everyone in the airplane.

This concludes page one of ten                                Damn that child woman

Love in the Time of Solanum

It was a world of want, of need, yet everything was for sale. Everything had a price.

And the price of love was too high. No one could afford it.

Who would invest in another mouth to feed? Who would want to have to back up the words “in sickness and in health” when sickness was far more likely than health? When poorer was far more likely than richer? When a little body heat wasn’t worth the cost of sharing food?

Love was for sale in the Zone, but only on a short-term basis. And everyone knew it.

Sibling Rivalry

Now this is a story for those who have an understanding for it. Many of us have been there, and many a time it hasn’t turned out pretty. Combine it with a zombie apocalypse, and it’s just plain deadly.

Claire and Jennifer have always had trouble getting along. Jennifer was older, and more mature by nature. Claire had to live in her shadow. This was always a game to Jennifer. And believe me, she milked it to an extreme. Not to mention their mother didn’t help. Always asking Claire why she couldn’t be more like her older sister. The “perfect” sister.

“Stop teasing me Jen!” yelled Claire. “Give me back my blanket! It’s the only thing I have left from our house!”

“Oh stop whining will you? Why did you keep this ratty old thing anyway, it smells.” Jennifer tossed the blanket onto the floor.

Anna and Eve

Eve ran into the dank basement as fast as she could and slammed the door. There was no way she was risking one of those things getting in. She pressed her back against the door, and sank down to the ground.

“That could have been really bad,” she breathed heavily to no one in particular.

“Promise me right now Anna, that you’ll never go outside of this room without me by your side.”

“I promise,” replied a shaky voice from the corner. “Aunt Eve?”

“Yes Anna?” responded Eve.

“When will I be able to see my mommy again?”

“Soon Anna, real soon…” Eve couldn’t bear to tell Anna that her mom wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon. Not as a human anyway.
